Prometheus
James Gunn Will Reportedly Write and Direct DC Universe's Upcoming Superman: Legacy Movie DC Universe's Superman: Legacy movie is reportedly in good hands, as James Gunn is said to be taking on the task of both writing and directing the film. Gunn is well-known in the superhero movie genre for his work with Marvel on the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. As the DC Extended Universe draws to a close with only a few movies remaining, DC Studios is gearing up to launch a new DC Universe titled Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. The first projects to be announced under Chapter 1 were revealed in January 2023 by Gunn and Peter Safran and included Superman: Legacy. The film is expected to offer a fresh take on the iconic superhero. In a recent interview with ComicPop on YouTube, DC comic book writer Tom King discussed DC Studios' creative committee, but the interview has since been made private. In the interview, King alluded to James Gunn's involvement in the upcoming Superman movie. According to King, Gunn is both the writer and director of the forthcoming Superman film and is the driving force behind the DC Universe. Alongside Peter Safran, Gunn has been actively involved in the creation of the new DC Universe and has reached out to a group of screenwriters. However, King did not provide any specific details about the Superman movie, and it remains unclear what direction Gunn will take the iconic superhero in his interpretation of the character. "There's stuff I can talk about, and stuff I can't. I mean, James Gunn is a super nerd and he's super creative, right? He's the writer and director of the Superman movie, and he's sort of the creative force behind all of this, him and Peter Safran. And he reached out to a group of screenwriters and myself, fantastic, amazing... whose names he's put out there, to work on making these movies and TV shows as good as they can be." movieweb.com/james-gunn-write-and-direct-dcu-superman-legacy-movie/
+ Grogu
‘Superman: Legacy’ Gets Title Change From James Gunn Drop the Legacy. James Gunn revealed that his new Superman movie will simply be called Superman, writing in a post celebrating the first day of filming, “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025.” Along with the post, he shared an image of the Superman logo from the film, which was previously called Superman: Legacy. The snow-dusting on the logo suggests a scene set in The Fortress of Solitude, Superman’s arctic fortress. Superman, of course, was the title of the seminal 1978 film starring Christopher Reeve and directed by Richard Donner. (Though it was also known as Superman: The Movie.) David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent/Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane. The cast also includes Nicholas Hoult as classic villain Lex Luthor. The film was previously titled Superman: Legacy. Warner Bros. has a July 11, 2025 date for the film, which marks the first solo Superman project in more than a decade following Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, which starred Henry Cavill. The cast includes Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Terence Rosemore (Otis), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner) and María Gabriela de Faría (The Engineer). Gunn is writing and directing the feature. “I completely relate to Superman because he’s everything I am,” Gunn told The Hollywood Reporter last year. “He’s somebody who is an outsider who feels like an alien, but also the ultimate insider, because he’s fucking Superman. And that’s kind of like what I feel like.” Source.
+ Grogu
Superman Reboot Set Image Teases Iconic DC Location, James Gunn Reveals Details of First Scenes Superman reboot reveals first scenes filmed at "ice fortress." Gunn describes Fortress of Solitude as a key element, showing a set photo of a snow-covered landscape. The DCU Superman reboot is due to be released on July 11, 2025. James Gunn has revealed more details about his upcoming Superman reboot, including information about a specific scene. The DCU movie formerly known as Superman: Legacy is now filming, with Gunn revealing to the Norwegian Media outlet Svalbardposten that they have now filmed the first scenes from the Superman movie, which finds David Corenswet’s Man of Steel fleeing to his “ice fortress.” "We have filmed the first scenes, which are when Superman flees to the ice fortress. We wanted a place that was beautiful and felt like being in the middle of the Arctic, so we looked at several places in the world. But there were many things that sold Svalbard for us over the other places. First, there is the natural beauty. But also the fact that you'll find a varied landscape here that you won't find anywhere else." Source.
