Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Swings Back to the Top of the Box Office, Surpassing Elemental and The Flash

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swung its way back to the top spot after its fourth domestic weekend. The film earned $19.3 million, surpassing Disney-Pixar's Elemental in the process, which earned $18.5 million in its second weekend but experienced a 39% drop. Meanwhile, The Flash faced disappointment as it fell short in its second weekend. Despite earlier projections and a considerable buzz surrounding the return of Michael Keaton as Batman, the film experienced a 73% drop in domestic earnings, earning only $15.3 million.

The underwhelming box office numbers for The Flash have raised questions about the factors that contributed to its disappointing outcome. While there was much anticipation for the film, some industry insiders have raised concerns about the marketing strategy employed for The Flash. Reports indicate that Warner Bros. Pictures executives were bemused by the promotional efforts surrounding the movie, particularly the claims that it would be one of the greatest superhero films ever made. Furthermore, challenges arose regarding the utilization of Ezra Miller, the film's lead star, for marketing purposes, which led to a shift in focus towards promoting the film. Despite a massive marketing campaign, which involved significant investments, The Flash fell short of expectations, opening with just over $55 million globally.
