Lucasfilm Reportedly Told to Concentrate on Star Wars Output, Impacting Indiana Jones and Willow TV Plans

There has been no secret made that Lucasfilm are desperate to see the Star Wars franchise back in cinemas, but recently they have also had a hand in other projects such as the Disney+ Willow series and a reported Indiana Jones TV venture. However, according to a new report the brakes may have been put on anything other than Star Wars being the focus for Lucasfilm in the immediate future.

On The Hot Mic, it was reported that the rumored Indiana Jones series, which was said to be following a younger version of the character – although not to be confused with the previous Young Indiana Jones Chronicles series – was being developed for Disney+. However, according to insider Jeff Sneider, the Walt Disney Company has reportedly told Lucasfilm that their focus should be completely on the Star Wars franchise and that the Indiana Jones project is canceled.

This could also be a reason why Willow has been “canceled” and why writer Jon Kasdan was quick to address the series’ demise as being “on hold” rather than completely canceled. While there were reported to be many other reasons why the Warwick Davis series might not have been popular enough to warrant a return, if Disney have pulled back Lucasfilm’s non-Star Wars projects, then this could go a long way to explain the Willow conundrum.

The Indiana Jones franchise is set to come to an end this summer in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, with Harrison Ford bowing out of the role after this fifth installment. Although the plans for a spin-off TV series grabbed the attention of fans when it was originally rumored, it looks like this summer’s outing could be the last Indiana Jones project we see for some time.
